The SMPOA also raises money to support local youth sport programs.  Money is rasied through membership dues, golf tournaments, and through the various fund raising efforts of the Torch Run.  The SMPOA is a supporter of the Santa Maria Police Explorer Program which teaches our youth about a career in law enforcement. The SMPOA is a non-profit organization that also provides benevolence to members and others in the law enforcement community.

The SMPOA is active in the local community through various avenues.  Officers are involved with the local Boys and Girls Club, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, local youth baseball, football and basketball and many other events.

The 2004 golf tournament will be held on Saturday, July 24th at the Marshallia Course at Vandenberg AFB. This in an outstanding and challenging course. Proceeds from the golf tournament go to various youth sports programs in the Santa Maria Valley, including Special Olympics. The objectives of this Association shall be the advancement of the health, comfort, morale and welfare of all members through their economic, professional and social advancement.  It shall be the aim of the Association to secure adequate compensation for the performance of the members' professional duties and to improve conditions of employment, accomplished through collective legal activities, to insure themselves and their families of their health, and against disability, accident and any other problems that may occur.
